B.Tech Credit Transfer Process
For Detained, Discontinued, and Backlog Students | UGC & AICTE Approved
Introduction
Academic journeys don’t always go as planned. If you’re a B.E/B.Tech student who is detained, discontinued, or struggling with backlogs/arrears, you might feel uncertain about your future. The good news is — you don’t have to start over.
Thanks to the latest UGC (University Grants Commission) and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) policies, a Credit Transfer or Migration process is available. This lets you transfer your earned credits from one college to another and continue your engineering degree.
In this blog, we’ll guide you through the complete legal process, official norms, eligibility conditions, important documents, and practical tips — making it easy for you to move forward.
What is B.Tech Credit Transfer or Migration in B.E/B.Tech?
Credit Transfer allows students to move their completed course credits from one approved institution to another without losing the academic work they have already done.
Migration means officially transferring from one institution to another — typically when you have issues like academic failure, discontinuation, personal circumstances, relocation, or college closure.
✅ Under UGC Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) Regulations, 2021 and AICTE Approval Handbook, credit mobility and migration are legally allowed and encouraged.
✅ Students who are detained or have arrears can also apply, based on certain conditions set by the new admitting institution.
Legal Framework You Must Know
| Regulatory Body | Norms & Support |
|---|---|
| UGC | Introduced the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system. Credits earned are valid and can be carried to other institutions. (NEP 2020) |
| AICTE | Permits inter-college migration between AICTE-approved institutions. Migration must be within similar programs (B.E to B.E / B.Tech to B.Tech) and academic mapping must be done. |
👉 Both UGC and AICTE aim to reduce dropouts, increase flexibility, and help students complete their degrees.
